Tottenham transfer news: Trusted source reveals next move after Arnaut Danjuma hijack, with talks already scheduled

Antonio Conte, October 2022

After stunning Everton in the pursuit of Netherlands attacker Arnaut Danjuma, Tottenham are already getting to work on the signing of a Champions League player next.

Danjuma already has experience playing in England, having been at Bournemouth from August 2019 until August 2021. He left for Villarreal and has gone on to register 22 goals in 51 matches for the Spanish outfit.

Danjuma, who can operate as a centre-forward or left winger, has regularly been linked with a return to the Premier League. Aston Villa were backed to sign him soon after their appointment of Unai Emery as manager, due to his good relationship with the player.

But Villa began targeting other stars, and this allowed Bournemouth to hold talks over a reunion with Danjuma. Then, it was the turn of Everton to get involved.

On Saturday, it emerged Everton had struck a full agreement with Villarreal to take the 25-year-old to Goodison Park.

The deal would have seen Danjuma join Everton on loan until the end of the season. However, it did not include any option or obligation to buy, potentially due to Everton’s rather worrying financial situation.

But there is now despair among Toffees officials as it looks like Danjuma will be joining Premier League rivals Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s side have thundered in and are now in discussions with Villarreal about a loan move of their own.

Tottenham are confident they can hijack Everton’s deal, despite Danjuma already completing a medical on Merseyside over the weekend.

Tottenham have advantage over Everton in Danjuma talks

Spurs will use a couple of factors to convince him to sign for them over Everton. The first will be league position. While Spurs sit in fifth spot and could secure Champions League qualification for next season, Everton are in 19th place and at real risk of being relegated.

The second factor is the upheaval at Everton, with manager Frank Lampard having recently been sacked. There is still uncertainty regarding Conte’s future at Spurs, but they are definitely in a more stable position than Everton right now.

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Spurs’ transfer plans. He tweeted that once the Danjuma signing is done, Spurs will turn their attention to Sporting Lisbon star Pedro Porro.

The right-back has impressed this season and made five appearances in the Champions League before Sporting were knocked out in the group stage.

Spurs have previously offered Sporting £32.5million (€37m) plus a first-team player in an attempt to reach an agreement. But Sporting rejected the proposal as it did not meet their demands. They are seeking Porro’s £40m release clause in full.

Spurs plot new Pedro Porro negotiations

According to Romano, Spurs have now scheduled fresh talks with the Portuguese side for Wednesday to try and find a solution. They will still refuse to match the £40m fee. Instead, they will rely on add-ons or a player going in the other direction to get Sporting to sing.

Porro, like Danjuma, has been on the books of an English team before. He was a Manchester City player between August 2019 and July 2022, though he never actually made an appearance for them as he spent the whole time out on loan.

Despite Porro’s lack of Premier League experience, he would probably go straight into Conte’s starting eleven. Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have failed to convince the Italian, while he also refuses to play Djed Spence.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane has broken his silence about claims he will be penning a new contract at Spurs.
