Tottenham confident of striking cut-price deal for top Kane back-up

Callum Wilson Bournemouth

Tottenham want to sign Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and believe they can sign the Englishman for less his asking price, according to a report.

Wilson finished as the Cherries‘ top scorer this season but to no avail after their relegation back to the Championship.

As such, Bournemouth are likely to sell some of their best players. Indeed, they have already sold defender Nathan Ake to Manchester City for £41million.

According to the Daily Star, Wilson could follow the Dutchman out of the exit door with Spurs keen.

Jose Mourinho’s side were linked with bringing in back-up to Harry Kane in January, but only ended up adding winger Steven Bergwijn to their attack.

The newspaper says, though, that a back-up centre-forward has become the club’s top priority, with Wilson their top target. The four-cap England international has reportedly told Bournemouth that he wants a move away.

What’s more, while West Ham and Newcastle are also both keen, Spurs are the favourites to land the 28-year-old.

Bournemouth will reportedly ask for £20million but Spurs believe the player’s desire to move to north London – as well as the impact of the coronavirus on the transfer market – could drive his price down.

Wilson’s contractual situation is unlikely to affect proceedings, with three years left on his current deal.

Spurs‘ shift of attention to signing a centre-forward has reportedly arrived after they reached a deal for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Southampton midfielder is close to joining Tottenham in a deal starting at around £15million. However, the total cost of the deal could rise with bonuses and add-ons.

As part of the deal, right-back Kyle Walker-Peters will sign a permanent deal with the Saints for around £12million. The England Under-21 international impressed in his half-season loan under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Leon Bailey

Meanwhile, reports claim Tottenham are keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey.

The Jamaican has continued to impress this season, with Leverkusen now through to the last eight of the Europa League.

However, he has reportedly switched agents in a bid to engineer a move to the Premier League.
