Known as The Millers, Rotherham United who were founded in 1925, play their football in League One, the third tier of the English football pyramid. This Yorkshire club came into being when two other local sides, Rotherham County and Rotherham Town united to form a single team. Throughout their history the club have never managed to reach the top flight, with their best ever league finish a third place in the second tier back in the season of 1954/55. On the cup front they were beaten finalists in the very first season of The League Cup in 1961, when they went down 3-2 over two legs to Aston Villa.
Currently managed by Paul Warne, the team are skippered by Richard Wood and features players like Joe Mattock, Will Grigg and Freddie Ladapo. Other stars to have worn the club's famous red and white jersey include their most capped player Danny Williams, their leading scorer Gladstone Guest and the prolific Wally Ardron who bagged 38 goals in a single season back in 1946/47.
When it comes to celebrity fans The Millers can name referee Howard Webb, Muse bassist Chris Wolstenhome and comedy duo The Chuckle Brothers as their most famous supporters.
