Mind-boggling bid for Liverpool starter coming, with crippling double exit to leave Klopp stranded

Liverpool stars Fabinho and Alisson Becker

Liverpool are poised to receive a ‘concrete’ bid worth a mind-boggling sum for a regular starter other than Jordan Henderson, per a trusted source.

The Reds are in the midst of a midfield overhaul this summer. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been banked to the tune of £35m and £60.1m respectively.

A third midfielder is wanted, with Southampton’s Romeo Lavia in Jurgen Klopp’s sights. Competition from that front will come from Chelsea, while Arsenal are emerging as a serious threat to hijack the deal.

However, the third midfield signing could soon assume greater significance if Saudi Arabian sides have their way.

Indeed, links between Jordan Henderson and Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq are well documented. The Daily Mail and L’Equipe initially confirmed the 33-year-old is wanted, while the eye-watering wages he could receive later emerged.

A decision one way or another is expected quickly from Henderson, while the Athletic claimed he’s currently leaning towards leaving. If the Reds skipper gives the greenlight to Al Ettifaq, an offer will quickly follow.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have informed their Saudi counterpart they want £10m before considering a Henderson exit. That is a sizeable sum for a player in the autumn of his career who also lost his place as a regular starter last season.

However, according to a bombshell update from the Athletic, Henderson isn’t the only midfielder wanted in Saudi Arabia.

Liverpool to receive £40m bid for Fabinho

Per David Ornstein, Al Ittihad are on the cusp of lodging a ‘concrete’ offer for Fabinho. Remarkably, Ornstein claims the bid will be worth £40m which is higher than the initial £39m fee Liverpool paid Monaco back in 2018.

Fabinho was among Liverpool’s biggest strugglers last season and now aged 29, a £40m bid will certainly give Liverpool something serious to consider.

The Athletic add a decision on whether to keep or axe Fabinho will be made quickly.

Selling the Brazilian would leave Liverpool without an established holding midfielder. Doing so may result in a move for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia being accelerated.

However, given vice-captain James Milner has left and skipper Henderson could also leave, selling Fabinho too would rid Klopp of three of his most experienced players.
