Klopp does little to offer Solanke hope of Liverpool future

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t exactly gone out of his way to reassure Dominic Solanke he remains in his plans – despite having “no explanation” as to why he was again left out of Liverpool’s matchday squad.

The 20-year-old summer signing from Chelsea has made 21 first-team appearances for Liverpool this season, but only four of those have been starts.

Solanke has been eased into the squad after his summer arrival from Stamford Bridge, where he was a regular in their youth sides.

He has been part of 38 matchday squads in all competitions for the Reds, as many as Dejan Lovren and more than Sadio Mane (36).

But not even making an appearance on the bench for the Mohamed Salah-inspired win over Watford was “unbelievable” for the forward, claims Klopp.

“The greed is so obvious, he wants to score, he wants to score but he doesn’t forget the others, if you see the situation with Danny Ings,” Klopp said of Salah’s fourth goal, which came as a result of Ings’ saved shot.

“[Ings] was a little bit unlucky, but it’s still nice to watch that he is really good and really strong at the moment.

“Dom Solanke [was] not in the squad, that’s unbelievable. I have no explanation for that, to be honest, apart from that I can only take 16 plus two goalkeepers so it’s just good.”
