Leeds, Newcastle on alert amid reports Conte willing to sell fringe Tottenham player

Antonio Conte is reportedly willing to green-light the sale of fringe Tottenham man Joe Rodon, putting Leeds United and Newcastle United on alert.

Rodon joined Tottenham from Swansea with a lot of promise. The Welshman warranted a fee north of £10million when he signed in 2020.

However, his Tottenham career has been quite tough. Rodon made just 14 appearances in all competitions during his first season at the club.

This campaign, he has made just eight appearances in all competitions. Of those eight games, he has only started five, and has appeared in the Premier League just once, from the bench.

The centre-back would have hoped for more of an impact after he joined the club. Given his lack of minutes, it was recently reported he had “made his mind up” regarding leaving the club.

It now seems as if Tottenham share those same ideas. A report from The Telegraph states that Conte will listen to offers for Rodon in the summer.

Of course, there is no point in keeping the centre-back around if he is not playing.

Furthermore, he does not count as a homegrown player. His spot could just as easily be utilised by an English academy graduate, which would be better for the squad.

Tottenham will likely want to make back the fee they paid for Rodon in 2020.

Given there are a few sides that have previously been interested, they could have a chance of doing so.

The report mentions recent links between Rodon and both Leeds and Newcastle, from January. Both sides may still be interested in a transfer for the Tottenham man.

At 24 years old, he should still have his best years ahead of him, despite a tough period at Spurs.

What’s more, he will want to secure a place at the World Cup, should Wales make it.

With that being said, whichever side he goes to will be getting a player with a lot to prove. As such, Tottenham could find a buyer for the centre-back with relative ease.
