Everton misery as Tottenham thunder in to snatch ‘agreed’ Danjuma deal, as trusted sources reveal true extent of remarkable Spurs coup

Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma

Tottenham are poised to hijack Everton’s loan move for Arnaut Danjuma and could offer something extra, with a series of trusted sources all detailing a bitter blow for the relegation-threatened Toffees.

The Villarreal winger, 25, was expected to formalise a six-month loan switch to Everton at some stage today. The Dutch international would bring a guarantee of goals and would’ve represented a huge lift for the stricken Toffees.

However, according to a plethora of reliable sources, Tottenham have thundered in and have tabled their own loan proposal.

Firstly, the Times’ Paul Joyce claimed confirmed that despite Danjuma passing an Everton medical over the weekend, his deal has not yet officially been signed.

Fabrizio Romano also claimed Danjuma had even performed early media duties with Everton over the weekend. Those video clips and photographs now appear unlikely to ever see the light of day.

The Telegraph’s Sam Wallace provided his take, adding Tottenham have ‘moved in’ for Danjuma and are also sizing up a loan.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shed further light on the remarkable twist, tweeting a loan proposal has indeed been lodged. What’s more, an option to buy is also being discussed.

Spurs reportedly believe they can successfully hijack the move despite Danjuma’s move to Everton only requiring his signature on the dotted line to be ratified.

Furthermore, Romano added Danjuma is currently in the process of travelling to London where, per David Ornstein, he’ll then undertake a medical with Spurs.

In a subsequent update, Romano gave Spurs’ hijack his signature ‘here we go’ confirmation.

The news initially broke earlier on Tuesday afternoon via journalist Jacque Talbot. If Tottenham are successful in steering Danjuma to north London and he signs on the dotted line, it’ll be the bitterest of pills to swallow over at Goodison Park.

The Netherlands ace has plundered six goals in 17 matches across all competitions this year. While previously a winger, he’s primarily played up front in Spain.

Danjuma fared even better last term, notching 16 in 34 including six in the Champions League. He’s also proven his worth in England in the past, scoring 17 for Bournemouth in their 2020-21 Championship campaign.

What does this mean for Nicolo Zaniolo to Tottenham?

While Spurs fans will no doubt be delighted their side are the ones doing the hijacking this time, a move for Danjuma does raise questions about what this means for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Roma forward, 23, is for sale this month and has been chased by Tottenham for four successive windows.

Spurs are understood to have tabled a loan bid that contained an obligation to buy. However, that was rejected by Jose Mourinho’s side given the clause hinged on Champions League qualification, which is far from guaranteed.

Furthermore, the figures put forward by Spurs didn’t come close to Roma’s valuation of the player.

A move for Danjuma might halt Spurs’ pursuit of Zaniolo altogether. The answers on that front should come out when Tottenham complete their hijack on Everton’s move for Danjuma.
