Euro Paper Talk: Ruthless Tottenham serve up pair to spring £50m signing; Man Utd, Arsenal raids coming

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham could offer two stars as makeweights if it’ll help unlock the £50m signing of a Premier League forward, while an ambitious LaLiga club are plotting a double raid on Man Utd and Arsenal – both in Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk.

TOTTENHAM CONSIDERING BUMPER CASH-PLUS-PLAYER DEAL

Spurs are exploring methods of how to beat Brentford to Nottingham Forest ace, Brennan Johnson, and a report claims two rarely seen defenders could be used as makeweights.

Tottenham’s primary focus in the final month of the window is retaining their all-time leading scorer, Harry Kane.

However, other moves – both arrivals and exits – are in the works, and Forest frontman Johnson is a wanted man.

Tottenham aren’t the only club sizing the 22-year-old Wales international up. Indeed, per the Daily Mail, Brentford have seen a second offer worth a club-record £40m knocked back by Forest.

Whether the Bees will go again remains to be seen. However, Thomas Frank’s side may soon have a Johnson deal whipped off the table.

Indeed, the Mail report Tottenham ‘may offer Djed Spence and Joe Rodon’ as makeweights to help unlock a deal for Johnson.

Neither Spurs player are in line to feature heavily this season. Indeed, the Evening Standard recently claimed Rodon has been told to find a new club.

Spence, meanwhile, accrued just six appearances during his first season in north London. With Pedro Porro signed to a permanent deal and Emerson Royal improving, there’s no obvious path into the starting eleven for Spence.

The Mail state Forest are determined to hold out for their full £50m asking price for Johnson. As such, Spurs could table a package that meets that valuation by way of including one – or even two – makeweights.

Spence previously rose to prominence during a thrilling loan spell at Forest in the 2021/22 campaign. Between he and Rodon, it stands to reason it’s Spence who Steve Cooper would hold a greater interest in.
