Euro Paper Talk: France defender emerges on Man Utd ‘recruitment list’ but red flag shows up

Benjamin Pavard Bayern Munich

Manchester United have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard, while Thursday’s Euro Transfer Gossip claims that both West Ham and Everton are in the hunt to land a former United winger.

BAYERN DEFENDER EMERGERS ON MAN UTD RADAR

Manchester United have reportedly added Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard to ‘their recruitment list’ this summer.

The France international has a wealth of experience, having made 119 appearances for the Bundesliga giants after joining them from Stuttgart for £31.5million in 2019.

However, L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) claims that the 26-year-old is currently considering his future.

The report adds that Pavard wants to feature more at centre-back, having spent much of his Bayern career at right-back or wing-back.

That has led to rumours of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Juventus all showing an interest.

But L’Equipe now states that United ‘have indicated’ they are ready to join the race for his signature.

There is also the possibility that Pavard extends his stay in Munich, with his current deal running out in 2024.

However, the likelihood of him getting his wish to play more centrally might just have been dashed by Bayern’s latest signing.

The reigning Bundesliga champions announced on Wednesday a big-money deal to sign Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus.

Man United set their sights on Benjamin Pavard

Manchester United have turned their attention to Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard, who has also been linked with Chelsea.

But L’Equipe states that any club wanting Pavard on board will have to pay at least £30m.

And with United having just spent up to £57m on Lisandro Martinez a move for Pavard does look unlikely.

Erik ten Hag already had Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly at his disposal before signing Martinez. So, unless he plans to sell at least two of that quartet, a move for Pavard does appear fairly pointless.
