Time ticking as Arsenal, Newcastle alerted to bargain clause for defender

Ola Aina, Josh Maja, Tosin Adarabioyo Fulham TEAMtalk

Arsenal could offer Tosin Adarabioyo the chance to remain in the Premier League by signing him from Fulham – but they face competition from Newcastle United, according to reports.

Adarabioyo was part of the Fulham side that were relegated in 2020-21. But like some of his teammates, he made a decent impression. As such, the former Manchester City youngster could still have a future in the top flight. It is now believed that two clubs are looking at him as a potential target.

According to the Daily Mail, the 23-year-old has become a target for both Arsenal and Newcastle.

There is a £10m release clause in Adarabioyo’s contract, but it is only valid until 30 days before the start of the Championship season on August 7th.

Therefore, if either club chooses to act on their interest, they will have to do so quickly.

But the current price tag for Adarabioyo could be inviting when he was a standout player of a sinking ship last season. Alongside Joachim Andersen, who was on loan at Fulham from Lyon, he formed part of a competent centre-back partnership.

Both players are now being linked with moves back into the Premier League. Tottenham want Andersen, but his defensive partner could end up with their north London rivals.

June 10 Transfer Chatter: PSG set to bid for Dembele, Barcelona keen on Sterling and Sabitzer wants out of RB Leipzig

Paris St Germain are preparing a bid for Ousmane Dembele, which could free Barcelona up to make a move for Man City's Raheem Sterling, while Marcel Sabitzer looks set to leave RB Leipzig in the summer.

Arsenal will be looking to strengthen defensively after releasing David Luiz. Adarabioyo would be a long-term reinforcement to help them address that area.

At the age of 23, the London-born ace has plenty of years ahead of him and will be keen to spend them at the top level.

An alternative to Arsenal would be Newcastle, who eventually climbed to 12th in the final Premier League table in 2020-21. They let in more goals than relegated Fulham, though, so will be keen to shore up the backline.

Arsenal line up Bellerin replacement

It is not just in the centre of defence that Arsenal need to strengthen. They are also pondering the potential exit of long-serving right-back Hector Bellerin.

There have been rumours about several players who could replace him. The latest to emerge is RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams.

According to The Athletic, the American appeals because he can play at right-back or in defensive midfield.

He is under contract until 2025 and and the Bundesliga side are desperate to keep hold of the New Yorker. They have already sold Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate and want to keep some stability to their side.

Adams made 21 starts from 27 Bundesliga appearances this season and is one of the USA national team’s bright young stars.

He could well be the direct replacement for Bellerin, if they can lure the player away from Germany.
